Z80
The Zilog Z80 is an 8-bit microprocessor developed by Zilog Inc. company. The Z80 is still available today in CMOS technology.
It was created shortly after Federico Faggin left Intel and founded his own company Zilog. At Intel he had worked on the 8080 microprocessor.
In March 1976 the Z80 was launched. It was developed with the aim of being backwards binary compatible with the Intel 8080. This meant that most programs developed for the 8080 ran on the Z80 without any changes, especially the CP/M operating system.
Compatible with the Intel 8080, but much more successful and in production for decades.
